San Miguel

Occupying a commanding position, the village and its fortified church, built between the 14th and 18th centuries, dominating the landscape all the way to the coast at Puerto San Miguel.

Today the church is more of a reference point for the thousands of tourists who pass through here on the way to the big hotel complexes. It is also the venue for high kicking displays of traditional folk dance practiced by groups of local folklore Thursdays from 18:00 in summer.

Downstairs in the main square of the village there is a craft market on Thursdays too. Here, only products actually made in Ibiza are for sale, and these range from pottery, fresh produce like honey with the aroma and flavor of the island, bamboo carvings, watercolors and sun catchers made hand.

The village has its fair share of small bars and restaurants, C’an Rei is a traditional restaurant with a wide variety of tapas, while Es Bosc, a small finca with shady garden, serving tapas, meat and fish, is on the outskirts of the village on the road to Santa Gertrudis.

Puerto San Miguel worth a visit if only to admire the magnificent mansion on the Illa des Bosc overlooking the harbor and belongs to the owners of a large Dutch chain stores. A Russian billionaire recently hired it and threw a private concert at which Julio Iglesias and Gypsy Kings were booked to perform.
